Remember how I mentioned that I was presenting at Blogworld New York in May? Well, if you missed it, a video of my session is below. The folks at Blogworld kindly said they’re totally cool with me sharing it.
(If you can’t see the video below, you should really click through to the post on my blog to view it.)
In the original video, you couldn’t see my screen very well, so I superimposed my slide presentation over it in making this new one. So, in the video below, you’ll hear me reference some formatting issues that you won’t see. (At the live event, I had to switch to a computer that they supplied at the very last minute… and the text was bigger on that computer, causing my text to sometimes bleed off the top or bottom of the slides and making for an interesting presentation.)
There were also a ton of technical problems with said replacement computer, so please excuse the slip-ups where I couldn’t get the mouse to click or whatever… and the fact that I had to keep looking to my left at the computer screen (there was no speaker’s podium).
In spite of all of the difficulties, I like how this turned out. I got to show off how easily I roll with the punches.
Oh, and you may want to watch this full-screen if you can’t see the slides well.

Hey Johnny,
That’s cool that you spoke at BlogWorld expo. I am all about telling the truth but how many people can accept the truth. It seems that many prefer fiction instead of truth.
How many people were in the audience listening to you?
Not sure; I’m bad at estimation. None of the rooms were big, but it was pretty full. 50?
Loved the video. good stage presents.
i didn’t go to Blogworld so this was a real treat.
My favorite piece is about story and transparency. I get the best feebdack from my readers when i write confessional transparent posts. It’s a strange thing but it works. Disarming just like you said…
Right. This isn’t about sales; it’s about connection. Sales then happen automatically.
Watched 1st 1/2, will return for second half. great presentation. besides being transparent, you’re funny and I think when the two are delivered together, it is disarming and refreshing. Personally, most things that make me laugh will cause me to consider. Folks can always use a bit of humor.
Hey, glad that you enjoyed it!
I love that the best success tips come down to:
1. Be good (or at least able) at something marketable.
2. Don’t be a big ol’ douchebag.
3. Repeat.
I’ve written before that it’s amazing how obvious these “secrets” are. I mean, we’ve known them forever, so how about we use them?
I’ve went to Johnny and asked him for help with a techy problem and he told me that he wouldn’t be able to do it.
I’ve been convinced he’s an upstanding guy ever since. Really enjoyed this video.
Crap, I forgot to make that overt as a tip, and it’s a good one. Honestly, one of the best ways to engender loyalty is to turn down business that’s wrong for you. Most people will promise the moon to make a sale, but there’s a lot of satisfaction and “win” in saying, “I’ll be honest… I can’t help you.”
