Survey results awesome but surprising

I am really, really, really glad I made this survey, and I’m really, really, really glad so many of you answered it. I suppose the second is more important, because I probably wouldn’t give a shit about having made the survey if nobody had answered it. But don’t go getting all cocky (i.e. flush with male chickens) that your answers were more important, because you would have looked really retarded answering a survey that I never created. So there.

Anyway, here are some bullet points from the results:

Videos are good enough for 67% of you.
Only 3% wanted me to keep doing webinars every week. Let me tell you, this is a load off my mind. The webinars are a huge pain in the ass, and videos are easy by comparison because if I accidentally show you some of my geriatric porn, I can go back and edit it out.

You want to know about blog administration and making money most of all.
I wasn’t totally clear with my question choices, but I can read between the lines. High answers on email marketing, affiliate marketing, e-commerce, and monetizing all boil down to wanting to make some coin. I’ll try to break this down with that end goal in mind rather than focusing on individual disciplines for the sake of focusing on them. And I think I’ll consider blog/site admin to be a cornerstone of the site.

(Incidentally, I’m going to report in Monday’s IttyBiz column on how well, financially, I did in my first month at this. I suspect that after you read it, you’ll be more interested in hearing what I have to say about making money)

A surprising number of you would be interested in working with me directly.
At first, I noticed that “No” was the clear answer to both “Would you hire me as a virtual assistant, even though I’m expensive?” and “Would you be interested in personal consultation?” and took it at face value. But then I realized I was missing something.

• Almost 30% of you would like me to offer services to simply do shit for you.

• Over 40% of you are maybe interested in personal consulting.

This surprised me, but the results do suggest that I should offer both. I suspect that group consulting (as Ginny suggested in the comments) is the better way to go. If I worked in groups of five people and we worked through everyone’s issues and questions sort of all together, it would keep costs down for everyone.

Stay tuned on this one.

You overwhelmingly want tutorials and blog posts.
Wow. So glad I did the survey, because all of my effort was going into those webinars that only 6% of you said you’d like to see more of or that you valued most.

• 85% of you said you’d like step-by-step online tutorials, so I’ll deliver. I like making these anyway. They’re like my free blog launch e-book (of which there is a new version now… if you have the old one, re-enter your info to get the new one) in that I’ll pretty much just give you screenshots with arrows telling you what to click and what it means.

• 68% wanted normal blog posts, so I’ll do more of those.

“Ask Johnny” Q&A followed, then e-books, then videos. Everything else was minimal.
Great. This really helps put my priorities in order.

Soon, I’m going to restructure the site so that all of this is more obvious and intuitive. Thanks for your input, everyone!
