FREE WEBINAR: “Installing themes on your blog so you don’t look like a newbie douchebag”

April 9, 2009 by Johnny
Filed under: Announcements, Blogs & sites

We’re rolling out the big guns right off the bat with the debut of this site’s first free webinar on How to install wordpress themes!

Date: Monday, April 13
Time: 4:00pm Eastern

TOPICS:
• What themes are, what different kinds exist, and where to find them
• Installing themes to make your site look faaaaaaaaaaaabulous!
• Basic Wordpress configuration (mainly, again, around themes)

YOUR HOMEWORK (to be done prior to the webinar on Monday):
1. Download the NEW AND CORRECTED version of the How to Launch a Blog in Under an Hour for Super Cheap, Even if You’re a Total Idiot e-book if you haven’t already.
If you downloaded your copy before Wednesday, April 8th at around noon Eastern, you have the version where I fucked up some important stuff. Just visit the same download link as before to get the new version, and if you don’t have that link anymore, just email me.

2. Actually DO what’s in the book.
You know, create your blog. In under an hour. For super cheap. Even if you’re a total idiot. It will be a lot easier to follow along with what I’m doing on the webinar if you can log into your blog and see what’s up. C’mon champ, you can handle it.

3. Have two sets of usernames and passwords written down and at-hand.
If you really want to follow along, you’ll need two of the username/password combos you set up while following my instructions in the e-book:

• At the top of page 11, you created your blog’s login information. You’ll need this to get into the console of your blog, which is located at www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin (if you installed in the root directory) or www.yourdomainname.com/subdirectory/wp-admin (if you installed in a subdirectory). Obviously, replace “yourdomainname” and “subdirectory” with the actual domain name and subdirectory name you used. You should probably try this out BEFORE getting on the webinar to make sure you can log in.

• At the bottom of page 6, you created a user for your hosting account. This will be used to transfer the new theme’s files to your blog. You don’t need to try this out yet; just have the info handy.

4. Check out the webinar’s page now, but also when you attend the call.
Every webinar I do will have its own page with resources, links, and most importantly, the call-in and log-in information for the webinar. You’ll look mighty stupid trying to attend the webinar with no phone and no connection to the internet part. Let’s face it; that’s just you sitting in a chair.

  2. Hi Johnny,

The webinar sounds great and I like your ebook but your titles make me cringe. I’ve never thought of avoiding being a douchebag or looking like an idiot as primary motivators.

    Best, Wendy

  4. Haha, sometimes my mom yells at me for stuff like that. My response is always that I can only be myself, which is both a legit answer and a cop-out at the same time.

  6. Hi Johnny,
Uncomfortably close to the douche-y side of the spectrum here on my site, but at my day job when the webinar is happening.
Is it going to be archived? Am I just out of luck?
    Do tell.
    Thanks,
    Drew

  12. Hi Johnny,

Looks like you’ve got a good thing going!

Will drop by tonight to check out the show even though I might have to cut down on my beauty sleep.

Lots of cheers from Germany — six hours ahead of Eastern Time!

PS Hey, where’s your “Subscribe to Comments” plugin?

  14. Well, it’s actually Monday, so you can cut down on the sleep that day.

You know, I need to add that comments thing. Which means you won’t get this reply. Ha!

But if you do, go here if you’re from Germany:

  16. Good one, Johnny!

Aaah, there’s nothing like a freshly installed followup comments option you can tick and surf away in peace . . .

    See you tonight!
