I’ll create your blog/website for free

So you want a Wordpress blog, on your own website under your own domain name. And you don’t want to do it yourself, right? That’s cool. You’re in the right place.

(IF YOU’RE WONDERING HOW A BLOG CAN BE A NORMAL WEBSITE as I mentioned in the title of this post, click here. If you have further questions, just email me.)

This service isn’t for everyone. I REALLY AM NOT CHARGING YOU ANYTHING, but because of that, I have to keep the criteria pretty specific.

Here’s what needs to happen:

1. YOU MUST NOT HAVE HOSTING OR A DOMAIN NAME FOR THIS BLOG YET.
In order to do these for free, I have to have everyone on a platform I’m very familiar with. I can’t customize to fit different hosting providers and domain registrars or it would take me forever. What’s more, you may be wondering why I’d do this for free? Well, the answer is that I get “paid” by GoDaddy.com because they give me an affiliate commission when you buy hosting for your new blog. If you don’t get that hosting through my affiliate link at the start of this process, then I get nothing. And that’s no fun.

2. WHEN YOU GET YOUR HOSTING, YOU MUST GET THE 12-MONTH “DELUXE” HOSTING PLAN
This plus a domain name will cost between $70-$80, but that pays for a whole year. And remember, you pay me nothing. The “Deluxe” plan means you can have unlimited websites on this one plan, and paying for the year up front means you save money. That just makes sense, and I require it of all of my clients because they’re serious about what they’re doing and are in it to stay. I don’t want to do blogs that are halfhearted or last a month. So yeah, you’ve gotta get the 12-month deluxe.

3. YOU CAN ONLY USE THE GODADDY PROMO CODE THAT I GIVE YOU FOR YOUR ORDER
If you use a promo code other than the one I provide during the process, GoDaddy won’t pay me a commission… so sorry, but we can’t do that. Remember, it’s around $80 tops for the entire year. That’s pretty cheap.

That’s it! If you’re cool with those three things, we’re in business. And that means you can keep reading.

Here’s how this works:

1. You follow an insanely easy 10-step process I’ve laid on the following pages, to buy your hosting and domain name.
2. You pick a theme – your blog’s “look” as described at the end of the 10-step process.
3. You email me the information I need – GoDaddy login info, theme choice, and more. (Don’t worry, I can’t get at your credit card info or anything with that login info. You should probably log in yourself and poke around to assure yourself of this.)
4. I install your blog, your new theme, and some blog plug-ins.
5. I tell you how to get to the new blog and its control panel, which is where you’ll write posts and all of the fun stuff. Then you change your passwords so I can’t get back into your stuff.

But here’s the fine print:

WHAT I’M GOING TO DO

1. Install Wordpress software on your site, so that you have a blog

2. Tell you how to get into the place where you can write posts and tweak it

3. Upload the theme you chose and make it active so that your blog looks all pretty

4. Upload some basic plug-ins and activate them. They are:

• wp-spamfree to fight blog comment spam
• all-in-one-SEO pack to get you started with search engines
• Google sitemap generator, also to help you with the engines
• Subscribe to comments, which in my opinion is essential to encouraging conversation on your blog

WHAT I’M NOT GOING TO DO

1. Move your posts or database over from Blogger or whatever old hosted blog you have, if you have one.
Yeah, read that again. I don’t want anyone pissed at me because they thought I was going to do the thankless job of moving all their old stuff over. This blog is a fresh start. If you want to lug your old database over or if you want to manually cut and paste all of your old posts and then backdate them, that’s your business.

But really, how important is all of that? Start a new blog. A new blog for a newly serious business.

2. Personal blog tutoring.
You can learn how to do the rest of what you might like to do by reading this blog and attending my webinars, and by browsing the Wordpress Help files. Sorry, but I can’t walk you through it all personally.

3. Pretty much everything else.
You’re on your own as far as putting widgets in the sidebar if you want, finding and placing pictures on the blog, doing any search engine optimization, and tweaking the settings.

Don’t worry, it won’t overwhelm you. It’s fairly intuitive, and you need to learn it anyway. I’ll do everything that is essential. All you’ll really need to do is to write posts, and anything else you figure out how to do it just gravy.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or hit me up on Twitter. Might want to do that anyway just so we can chat first.

Sound good? Then let’s get started! There are 10 steps, and I’ll bet the whole process doesn’t take you more than 15 minutes. Probably less.

What people are saying
about me (Full list here)

“Johnny B. is a pro — knowledgeable, professional and fast. He set up my blog literally overnight and it had all the bells and whistles. If it weren’t for him my blog would still be an idea.”
— Kelly Kingman, Write Sticky!

“Last week I had all these great ideas about new blogs, mailing lists, domain names….. and no clue about how to get it all together. Then along came Johnny. So I followed his instructions…… now I have two operational blogs with mailing list sign ups and plug ins and all those other clever tech-type things. You really can do this yourself in under an hour – Johnny’s explanations are straightforward, detailed and easy to follow. (And he talks about ninjas.) Excellent stuff, thanks Johnny!”
— Kim Wood, Kim Wood Coaching

“I needed to start a website immediately and didn’t have a clue where to start. Something else I didn’t have was bucket loads of money to pay a designer. Enter Johnny. I’m totally clueless about this stuff, but he laid out what I needed to do, step by step, and even showed me how not to spend a cent more than I had to in getting my domain name. Then I just picked a cool theme and Johnny swooped in and did the rest. He gave me a very short time frame then delivered early on it. POW! I’ve got a brilliant website and can still afford to keep my kids.”
— Dave Rowley, Chai Creativity Coaching

“Believe it! Johnny’s skill, humor, and talent put together the blog I’ve always wanted. Thank you, Johnny, for setting me up professionally, clearly and amazingly fast!”
— M. Scoretz, Vancouver, BC Canada

“Setting up your own blog can be overwhelming. You want it up and working, fast, but figuring out plug-ins and understanding the needs of your host can make it daunting. That’s where Johnny comes in. He has a way of making everything simple. He takes you through the process step by step, shows you what you need to know to maintain your own site, and is always available to answer questions. He knows his stuff, he’s funny as hell, and he actually understands what you need. Quite a rare combination in a computer geek.”
— Jennifer Michelle, Pole Skivvies
